Global 2013: 2013 All-Star warm-up jackets have patches showcasing players’ career accomplishments

When LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and the rest of the participants in Sunday night's 2013 NBA All-Star Game come out of the locker room to take the court at the Toyota Center, you'll be able to see exactly how much they've been able to achieve in the league, not just based on the level of their play, but also by patches displaying and recounting their career highlights on their black-and-white warm-up jackets.

The NBA and Adidas described the idea of celebrating each individual All-Star's C.V. when they unveiled this year's All-Star jerseys last month, but they didn't reveal what the customization would look like. And given the look of the jerseys themselves — which The Basketball Jones' Trey Kerby described as a "wacky" uniform combining "every design feature you can imagine" into a finished product that "came out looking like a default create-a-team uniform from 'NBA Live 2001'" — that mystery presented some cause for concern. But if the patches on the warm-up jackets of the Miami Heat's James, the Los Angeles Lakers' Bryant and the San Antonio Spurs' Duncan (which you can see after the jump) are any indication, the resulting graphical representation of each players' accomplishments actually came out pretty cool.

As the NBA and Adidas detailed in their initial release, the jackets "represent individual career accomplishments such as NBA All-Star Game appearances and All-Star MVP awards, NBA titles, in addition to season awards including MVP, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Championships." While the jerseys were reportedly inspired by Houston's aeronautical history, the jackets seem to have been inspired by the awards and decorations on military dress uniforms.

This, of course, lends itself more to veteran player with a lengthy career full of achievements, like Bryant's five NBA titles, James' three league MVPs and Duncan's 14 All-Star selections than to younger players and first-time All-Stars whose bodies of work might not be quite so impressive yet. In a way, though, that's good — it reminds you of why we spend more time talking about and celebrating those guys. Maybe it'll even offer some of those first-timers a reminder of the legendary levels to which they're aspiring, and the kind of consistent excellence that will be required to get there.

Global 2012: Lakers center Robert Sacre was the only one without a number at the NBA’s rookie photo shoot

English: Robert SacreEnglish: Robert Sacre (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
It's got to be tough enough for rookie Robert Sacre that he's still unsigned nearly two months after the Los Angeles Lakers chose him with the final pick in June's 2012 NBA draft, especially since he knows he's unlikely to see any shot at minutes in the middle thanks to the trade for Dwight Howard and the re-signing of free agent Jordan Hill, and especially since L.A.'s got the rights to 16 players for 15 roster spots (or, as Darius Soriano recently noted at Forum Blue and Gold, more probably 14 spots), putting him very squarely on the chopping block in the months before the start of the season.

But man, did the Lakers have to send the former Gonzaga Bulldogs big man to the NBA's rookie photo shoot in Tarrytown, N.Y., on Tuesday without a number?

Well, um, look on the bright side, Robert — since every other rookie present actually had a number, you definitely stand out. That counts for something, right?

Provided, of course, this isn't just a really, really bad omen.

If it's not, here's hoping the Lakers spring for a new set of press shots pronto. If it is, well, then at least Sacre suffered it with a smile. Doing so might not make him as proudly hirsute as Quincy Acy or as Conanic as Kyle Singler, but looking on the bright side for posterity still makes him a photo-shoot champ in my eyes.

Global 2012: Kanye West to Join 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians

(Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)Looks like "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" will have a new cast member: Kanye West. But don't expect Khloé and Lamar-style action.

Kim K. confirmed to E! Online that her new beau, rapper Kanye West, will appear on several episodes of the reality series, saying: "I want to show my life,” adding, "If we are having dinner and he does show up, I'm sure we're not going to go, 'Stop the cameras!'"

But she added, "I'm not going to be taking a bubble bath and drinking champagne or on a sex swing [on camera] like Khloé and Lamar do," Kardashian told E! News, adding, "It's not going to be like that."

The lovebirds haven’t exactly been hiding their relationship: The two were recently spotted courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers game, but seemed to have eyes only for each other.

Manila 2010: No official event for PNoy on Christmas Day, just family time

Christmas in the post-War United StatesImage via Wikipedia
There will be no official event for President Benigno Aquino III on Christmas Day because he will be spending it entirely with his family, a Palace official said Friday.

Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Secretary Ricky Carandang said Aquino won't attend a Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) event, which the Palace had proposed to be part of the president's Christmas activities.

"Hindi na siya matutuloy... he's going to be spending the time with the Aquinos and the Cojuangcos, so wala na siyang official event," Carandang told Malacañang reporters in a phone-patch interview.

Carandang said Aquino, a 50-year-old bachelor, will also spend noche buena with his family, although the Palace official said he was not sure whether the president will spend the day with his maternal or paternal relatives.
