Global News 2013: Jennifer Lawrence’s golden moment becomes Oscar oops

Maybe Jennifer Lawrence didn't get that sandwich in time.

The actress, who joked on the red carpet that she hadn't eaten all day, wound up tripping on the stairs on her way to accept her Oscar for Best Actress for "Silver Linings Playbook."

But she managed to go on with the show. As she gripped her Oscar she told the crowd standing in support, "You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell and that’s really embarrassing. But thank you."

The down-to-earth actress explained back stage what it was like when she hit the ground. "Was that on purpose? Absolutely! What happened? What do you mean what happened — look at my dress! I tried to walk up stairs in this dress, that's what happened. I tried to walk upstairs and stepped on the fabric. They waxed the stairs. What was going through my mind? A bad word that I can't say that starts with F."

This isn’t the first time the "Hunger Games" star has experienced an awkward moment during this awards season. At the Screen Actors Guild awards, the star caused some buzz when she appeared to have ripped her dress when she stood up.

It was later explained that the Dior gown simply had an odd construction that included sheer layers of tulle.

But with her own silver lining -- in the form of a golden statuette -- we're sure she didn't mind a little stumble.

Global 2013: Affleck wins Oscar

Ben Affleck taking home the Oscar for Best Picture for "Argo" came as no surprise. In fact, the win marks pretty familiar territory for Affleck, who has come full circle back to being an Academy Awards darling after a handful of wrong (and some really wrong) turns in his life and career.

Affleck was first on the Oscar stage 15 years ago, when he and Matt Damon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for "Good Will Hunting." Affleck was 25 at the time, already with a few decent film credits under his, and filled with a certain youthful exuberance.

Or, some might say, cockiness.

"There's no way we're doing this in less than 20 seconds," said Affleck after he and Damon were handed their statuettes by Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Affleck then proceeded to frantically thank everyone involved with the film, as well as his and Damon's respective mothers and even "Cuba Gooding Jr. for showing us how to do an acceptance speech."

Affleck's excitement was perceived by many as too brash -- he barely let Damon get a word in edgewise. While it jumpstarted a lucrative acting career ("Armageddon," "Pearl Harbor," and "Daredevil"), Affleck soon found himself fronting reviled disasters like "Gigli" and "Jersey Girl" … and caught in a whirlwind tabloid romance with Jennifer Lopez that all but destroyed his credibility and made him a punchline.

He and Lopez didn't last. They called it quits just before they were scheduled to wed in 2004.

And then, after quietly marrying "Daredevil" costar Jennifer Garner the following year, Affleck's career took a major turn.

He reinvented himself as a director, making his debut behind the camera with the critically hailed Boston-set crime drama "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), which scored a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Amy Ryan. After his well-received turn as a morally compromised congressman opposite Russell Crowe in "State of Play" (2009), Affleck starred in and directed 2010's "The Town", a Beantown-based bank heist thriller. The film was a hit with both audiences and critics, earning an Oscar nod for Jeremy Renner.

Which brings us to tonight as "Argo." Snubbed in the Best Director race, Affleck found himself on the Oscar stage delivering his first acceptance speech in 15 years as a co-producer of the Best Picture winner.

Global 2012: Halle Berry on Why She's Had Bad Choices in Men

Halle Berry, 46, is opening up about her failed past relationships in a new interview with T, The New York Times Style Magazine, where she says "her picker's broken" when it comes to men.

Berry's rocky relationships are no secret. The collapse of Berry's four-year marriage to baseball player David Justice resulted in a suicide attempt, her second husband Eric Benet went into sex rehab and admitted to cheating on her repeatedly, and now she is currently in a custody struggle with her daughter Nahla's father Gabriel Aubry.

"My picker's broken," Berry tells T about her ability to choose men. "God just wanted to mix up my life. Maybe he was thinking, 'This girl can't get everything! I'm going to give her a broken picker.'"

But now that she's engaged to Olivier Martinez, she says her picker is apparently "fixed now."

According to Berry, part of her questionable past choices comes from her admitted low self-esteem.

"Just because they see my face doesn't mean they see me. A person's self-esteem has nothing to do with how she looks," she says. "If it's true that I'm beautiful, I'm proof of that. Self-esteem comes from who you have in your life. How you were raised. What you struggled with as a child."

Her childhood struggles include being raised by a single mother and having a hard time fitting in due to being bi-racial.

"My mother tried hard," Berry says. "But there was no substitute for having a black woman I could identify with, who could teach me about being black."

"I always had to prove myself through my actions,"she recalls about being the lone black student in a nearly all-white school. "Be a cheerleader. Be class president. Be the editor of the newspaper. It gave me a way to show who I was without being angry or violent. By the time I left school, I had a lot of tenacity. I'd turned things around."

Still, her "humble beginnings" very much affect her today -- even on the night she won an Oscar for Monster's Ball.

"I always felt like the underdog. Behind the eight ball. I learned not to be too high on the hog," she explains. "Even that night I won the Oscar, I had a fundamental knowing, it was just a moment in time. Driving home that night, back to my house, I felt like Cinderella. I said, 'When this night is over, I'm going back to who I was.' And I did."

Global 2012: Charlize Theron Accidentally Makes "Slutty" Comment About "Being Naked"

Charlize Theron has no qualms about taking her clothes off -- for the right role, that is.

The Academy Award winner, 36, shares the cover of W's August issue with her Prometheus costar Michael Fassbender, 35. The magazine spread features the scantily-clad actors fondling each other in a grimy warehouse.

When asked if it's harder to film a death scene or a sex scene, Theron quips, "It depends on who you're doing the sex scene with. I don't have issues being naked . . . That sounds very slutty."

"Kind of," Fassbender teases. "I didn't want to say anything, but yes."

"What I mean is, I'm not hung up on my body," Theron clarifies. "I've been lucky to work with people I've been really comfortable with. I've had maybe two occasions where [I wasn't]."

Theron then joked, "And Michael's one of the two who did not make me feel very comfortable!"

Fassbender -- who famously went full-frontal nude for his role in 2011's Shame -- admits that "sex scenes sound like more fun than they are. Death scenes are easier, really. Maybe because I've died so many times. I've had a lot of practice. In my movies, I'm often naked or dying."

Global 2011: Men Are Quicker to Drop the L-Bomb

A couple of months ago I was chatting with a friend of mine about her new boyfriend, who she was – and still is – so blatantly madly in love with. The difference between then and now is that back then she refused to even utter those three little words and just tell him, "I love you."

I couldn't understand why she was waiting to tell him something she so obviously felt, but every time I asked, she'd just say, "I'm waiting for him to say it first." And sure enough, a few weeks later, he professed his love. Granted, it was at 1 AM at a dive bar on the upper east side, but that doesn't make it any less special.

To be honest, I was a little surprised that he was the first to break, being that most of the guys I know would never say "I love you" first... or so I thought. A new study in the journal of Personality and Social Psychology is changing everything I ever thought I knew about boys. On average, men considered saying "I love you" 42 days before women did.

Global 2011: Daniel Craig Secretly Weds Oscar Winning Actress Rachel Weisz

Perhaps this tying of another Hollywood star knot is not too surprising as Craig and Weisz will be hitting the big screen as a married couple in the film "Dream House." The surprise may be legitimate in light of the fact that when Weisz broke it off with her former boyfriend, director Darren Aronofsky, in November of 2010, she denied being involved with the latest and greatest James Bond.

Daniel Craig is certainly well known around the world as 007 and for memorable performances in films ranging from "Infamous" to "Defiance." The new Mrs. Craig is also a familiar face to audiences courtesy of parts in blockbusters like "The Mummy" and "Fred Claus." Less familiar to many of those moviegoers, perhaps, is Weisz's Academy Award winning performance in "The Constant Gardener." A great movie that also features a great performance by Ralph Fiennes so see if when you get the chance.

The wedding ceremony was secretive and sparsely attended. Reports indicate that the marriage took place in the presence of just four witnesses that included Craig's teenage daughter and Weisz's four year old son. That son's father is Weisz's ex, Aronofsky.

Global 2011: Reese Witherspoon Weds Jim Toth

Reese Witherspoon married Jim Toth early Saturday evening at her 6-acre ranch in Ojai, Calif., UsMagazine.com has confirmed.

Wearing a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier gown, the actress, 35, exchanged vows with CAA agent Toth, 40, in front of 120 family members and friends (including Renee Zellweger, and Alyssa Milano, and Tobey Maguire) in the front courtyard of the Ojai house.

Witherspoon's best friend, Heather Rosenfield, served as matron of honor, and her kids with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe -- daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7 -- took part in the ceremony. The Oscar winner's young nieces served as flower girls.

The "Tennessee Waltz" was the processional music for Toth and the kids, while Witherspoon walked down the aisle to "Here Comes the Bride." The 20-minute ceremony was officiated by Reverend Jimmy Bartz, founder of Thad's church in Santa Monica, where the couple have been attending weekly Sunday services. The duo exchanged wedding bands designed by jeweler William Goldberg.

Global 2011: Natalie Portman Slammed by Her Black Swan Dance

Sarah Lane, the American Ballet Theater dancer who acted as Natalie Portman's dance double in the hit film, has a gripe with the Oscar-winning star and the film's execs.

Lane alleges she was told by executives at Fox Searchlight to stop speaking publicly about her work in the movie so that Portman could take the credit for the amazing dance moves herself.

In interviews, Portman talked frequently about how grueling it was to master ballet techniques for the intense psychological drama. Yet when she won her Academy Award for the acclaimed performance, the actress failed to acknowledge Lane during her acceptance speech. Lane was also apparently deleted from a DVD extra showing Black Swan's special effects.

Global 2011: Mumbai slum fire destroys home of Slumdog actor

A fire in a Mumbai slum destroyed the one-room shack of "Slumdog Millionaire" child actress Rubina Ali, leaving her family homeless, Ali said.

The fire also swept through hundreds of tenements late on Friday near railway tracks where Ali continued to live even after gaining global recognition. Nobody was hurt in the fire.

Ali, who shot to international fame for her role in Danny Boyle's Oscar winning 2008 film "Slumdog Millionaire," said she lost most of her belongings including precious photographs taken during her trip to Los Angeles for the Oscar ceremony.

Diane Lane is an actress who has seemed perpetually 37 for about 20 years. There's a weary, sexy worldly wisdom to her that has allowed her to appeal to both men and women, either in erotic "thrillers" like "Unfaithful" or big crowd-pleasers like "Secretariat." Thirty-seven is a good age for an actress to seem; old enough to be respected, but young enough to still be attractive to all age groups.

The one age she doesn't seem like: elderly.

Yet the 46-year-old, onetime Oscar-nominee Lane will play Martha Kent, Superman's "mom," in the upcoming Superman reboot.

Global 2011: Why the Javier Bardem-Josh Brolin Kiss Wasn't Included in the Oscars Telecast

On Sunday's ABC telecast of the 83rd Academy Awards, viewers didn't see a quick kiss and dance between presenters Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin -- but it wasn't on purpose.

Despite speculation that the network may have censored the two actors' smooch, Oscar producer Bruce Cohen insists it was because directors had already decided beforehand they would cut away to focus on the audience and Bardem's wife, Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, who recently gave birth.

"It [the dance and the kiss] was unscripted, and the plan in the truck was always to cut to Penelope in the audience applauding Josh's and Javier's introduction," Cohen explained in a statement to AfterElton.com, which had originally questioned why the moment didn't make it to the broadcast, noting that the 2006 Oscar telecast included a "Brokeback Mountain" spoof that starred Jon Stewart and George Clooney in bed. (Not to mention that Bardem is from Spain, where kissing is a traditional greeting among close friends.)
