Global 2012: Kate Upton Defends Her Curves

Sports Illustrated 2009 iPhone applicationSports Illustrated 2009 iPhone application (Photo credit: cattias.photos)
Model Kate Upton's va-va-voom physique has been in the news since she lit up the cover of Sports Illustrated in February. She isn't your typical model--at least not your typical rail thin millennial cat walker. The voluptuous twenty-year-old is more of a throwback to the late 1980s early '90s when glamazons like Cindy Crawford dominated the fashion pages and Anna Nicole Smith first posed for Guess.

Not everyone in the world of fashion and beauty approves. "She's like a Page 3 girl," Sophia Neophitou, who books Victoria's Secret Shows, told the New York Times earlier this year referring to the half-naked women featured in British tabloids. "She's like a footballer's wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy."

Upton seems to take it in stride. Although she hasn't responded directly to haters like Skinny Gurl (contrary to some news reports), in a recent interview with the Sunday Times UK, she said, "My body is something that you have to work out and eat healthily for. I'm not doing drugs or not eating. I want to enjoy life and I can't be enjoying life if I'm not eating and miserable."

The irony is, Upton doesn't look out of place in magazines such as Vogue where she recently posed in demure autumn attire, and she's certainly not overweight. According to the New York Times, she is 5'11", and her measurements are 36'-25'-34'. You can argue that the model has been overexposed (both literally and figuratively)--"We apologize in advance for your decreased productivity" tweeted GQ annoyingly after publishing its July issue which featured Upton licking a popsicle in a tiny bikini--but describing as her fat represents a twisted view of the female form. Her rep says, "Its absurd. Kate's gorgeous and very healthy."

And Upton fans aren't buying it either. A backlash against the post has pushed Skinny Gurl to remove features such as her "Starving Tips of the Day" from the website and add links to resources on "depression, eating disorders, and self harm."

As for Upton, we suspect she's enjoying a burger from Carl's Jr., (which she represents) and scheduling a wax appointment for her next bikini shoot.

Global 2011: Steve Jobs’ Final Words Shared in Sister’s Eulogy

LONDON - JUNE 15: (FILE PHOTO) Steve Jobs, Ch...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
Steve Jobs’ sister Mona Simpson shared in the eulogy she delivered at the late Apple CEO‘s memorial service that his surprising final words from his deathbed were, “Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow.”

In the eulogy, which was printed in The New York Times on Sunday, Simpson describes Jobs’ final days and moments in a Palo Alto hospital, which was spent surrounded by family as his breathing gradually became shorter.

His breath, she said, “indicated an arduous journey, some steep path, altitude.”

Delivered at the October 16 service for Jobs at Stanford Memorial Church, Simpson, an accomplished novelist, began by describing her initial meeting of her brother for the first time when she was in her mid-20s. Simpson was born in 1957, two years after Jobs, who was given up for adoption as an infant.

“Even as a feminist, my whole life I’d been waiting for a man to love, who could love me. For decades, I’d thought that man would be my father. When I was 25, I met that man and he was my brother,” Simpson said.

Simpson went on to describe her strong relationship with the man now know for the revolutionizing computer world, while explaining Jobs’ work ethic and capacity for love — particularly for his wife Laurene and as a doting father to their three children.

“Steve was like a girl in the amount of time he spent talking about love. Love was his supreme virtue, his god of gods. He tracked and worried about the romantic lives of the people working with him,” she said.

Global 2011: Shocking Amounts Of Money A Singer Can Make Off A Private Performance

Mariah Carey during red carpet interviews at t...Image via WikipediaMariah Carey raked in $1 million to sing just four songs at a Gadhafi bash on the Caribbean island of St. Barts after New Year's Day 2009, The New York Times reported. Carey's rep, Cindi Berger, would not comment on how much Carey was paid, but the singer said in a statement: "I was naive and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess."

Global 2010: 5 Reasons Women Are As Shallow As Men (According to Science)

Romantic Comedy (film)Image via Wikipedia
Thanks to romantic comedies and crappy comedians, we know that men are crude, shallow boors that only care about sex, and women are weepy sensitive hippies that only care about poetry and what's on the inside.

Like everything else in romantic comedies, this is bullshit. Some men are shallow and so are some women.

No, women are shallow in completely different ways, and it involves things like...

#5.
The Color Red (and Other "Power" Indicators)

#4.
Looks (but Not the Same Looks )

#3.
Muscles (but Not Too Much)

#2.
Money (but Not... Actually Yes it's Just Money)

#1.
Penis Size (but Not Length)

Global 2010: 11 Fast Fixes for Instant Energy

_MG_5447Image by Impact Sounds via Flickr
Having a low-energy day? Sometimes the problem is lack of sleep. But even if you're well rested, certain diet or exercise habits or other lifestyle choices can bring on a slump. And surprisingly little things—like the size of your Starbucks order or how you decorate your office—can hurt or help your energy levels. Make some of these tweaks to recharge your batteries and power through your day.

1. Have bran for breakfast
2. Order a small latte—and sip it slowly
3. Eat more often
4. Plop a plant in your office
5. Gulp some water
6. Or steep a cup of tea
7. Take a 10-minute walk
8. Copy your kid's lunch
9. Cue up your iPod
10. Try a natural cure
11. Order the seaweed salad
